TRAC Shortlisted for Gold Award

TRAC has been shortlisted in the Innovation category of this year’s Press and Journal Energy Voice Gold Awards for its industry-leading TracTec technology. The TracTec is set to transform offshore inspection, cleaning and repair solutions within the notoriously inaccessible splash zone.

In its simplest terms, TracTec is a large-scale clamp, which is remotely deployed from any platform to enable the safe inspection, maintenance and repair of all types, sizes and configurations of caissons and conductors, negating the need for divers, ROVs and DSVs.

The Gold Awards  are held in association with Aberdeen Standard Investments (ASI) to celebrate excellence in the UK energy sector.

The innovation accolade – sponsored by Balmoral Group – is aimed at the people behind projects securing the industry’s future. The winner will be announced at a ceremony  at the Chester Hotel, Aberdeen, on September 6.

ASI chairman Martin Gilbert said: “Congratulations to all of the finalists who have been shortlisted. The quality of submissions is testament to the talent, professionalism and innovative outlook of the energy industry. The judges face a difficult task in the next stage among so many worthy candidates.”

NHS Healthy Working Lives Silver Award

Our commitment to the health and wellbeing of our employees has been recognised with an NHS Healthy Working Lives Silver Award.

This award is the result of efforts to encourage physical activity and healthier food choices, achieved through our Cycle to Work scheme, Local and Aberdeen City Gym Memberships, participation in activity sponsorships,  with availability of healthy food options in the kitchen, alternative healthier baking options  – with samples – and participation by various levels of management at Mental Health Training.

Not to rest on our laurels, our Healthy Working Lives group is already working on a plan to get us to Gold.

Group coordinator Ian Somers said:” Obtaining our Gold award will benefit everyone in the company as it maintains all the activities required for Bronze and Silver and introduces additional compulsory requirements.

“Our office-based support staff covers a wide age range from teenager through to an 80 plus year old who have different wellbeing requirements that are actively engaged in delivering long term benefits. If the wellbeing of individuals is being invested in by the company the business will similarly enjoy the benefits from longevity of employment. As well as being committed to ensuring we all go home safe, we are committed to going home fit and healthy to enjoy our work and leisure time.”

Sprint Robotics Roadshow

The latest in drone and robotic inspection technology was on display last week when we hosted the Sprint Robotics Roadshow.

The event provided insight into new developments in remote inspection kit and techniques and included demonstrations and presentations from leading suppliers.

There was also the opportunity for networking over an informal lunch.

Business Deliver Manager, Jan Stander, said: “It was good to have the latest robotic technology on show on real life samples. Some key clients came across to see it in action and discuss how it can be deployed in the field.

“Those who attended definitely benefitted from the opportunity to see a range of cutting-edge equipment in operation.”

IRATA Work & Safety Analysis 2018

The report examines data for employment and incident reports submitted by IRATA members January – December 2017. IRATA membership rose to 389 by Q4, a further increase of 36 members operating worldwide. Total employment rose to 15,530. Associated work hours remained at 18 million hours. There was a significant and welcome increase of employment of L1s by over 1,000. Utilisation fell to 1,171 hours per employee, the lowest for over 5 years. There were 148 reported events, of which 86 were ‘Dangerous Occurrences’. Fatalities, injuries and illnesses accounted for 62, of which 13 were reportable, and, very sadly, including three fatalities. The overall reportable injury rate was 110 per 100,000 workers – well below all latest UK, Eurostat EU28 and USA work injury statistics – maintaining a very good safety record for injuries, though returning to 2010-2013 levels for ‘On Rope’ working. The fatalities contributed to an increase in the 5-year fatality rate to well above the range of most other related data. This must be a cause of concern for the Association. Positives include the absence of illnesses brought on by hot/humid conditions and a significant reduction in ‘On Rope’ errors by technicians. Areas where improvements in safety could be achieved are identified, were dominated by the need to prevent rope damage and severance. Dropped objects remain a concern, as does site protection and hazard identification, all of which need to be improved. Please find the report here: Work & Safety Analysis 2018 (10MB PDF file)


At TRAC we are always wanting to keep right in the forefront of the Oil & Gas industry and make sure that we are delivering to the best standard we can, what better way to carry this out by getting out there in the field to see exactly where we can enhance our services. Jan Stander our Business Delivery Manager put his offshore hat on and went to visit the FPF1 Petrofac platform. The visit entailed a detailed walk around the platform along with meeting our tank inspection and core team. Thank you once again for welcoming Jan onboard, we have taken some very valuable lessons away with us to introduce into the way we delivery our services.
