“Common goals, flexibility and lots of enthusiasm”
Joining as a temp for two weeks in 2006, Sarah Milne now plays a fundamental role within the TRAC team. 12 years after that initial fortnight’s contract, the Business Process Manager tells us about TRAC life…
So, Sarah – you came for a fortnight and have stayed for twelve years?
I think I am characteristic of TRAC’s ability to spot – and encourage – potential. From temporary receptionist, to permanent receptionist, to HR co-ordinator within two months, the company gave me a flying start and I’ve never looked back.
During the past 12 years, I’ve been lucky enough to experience every part of the company (except Accounts), and I feel incredibly proud to have witnessed and been a part of TRAC’s ambitious progression plan. I’ve worked in project management, logistics, business development and now business processes, so I think it’s safe to say there’s not much about the company I don’t understand!
You obviously enjoy your job a lot – can you pinpoint any particular projects you’re really proud of?
As logistics and support manager, I was instrumental in creating new logistics, training and development processes for over 500 staff (including 300 offshore). Whilst that was no mean feat, I enjoyed the responsibility, as well as the ultimate results of this project – the benefits of which are still clear to see today.
We’ve grown enormously in the past 20 years, and enhanced processes and procedures are a part of that success. However, regardless of size, we all work hard to ensure that we don’t lose sight of who we are; a close-knit community with common goals, flexibility and lots of enthusiasm.
There’s a lot of love for the atmosphere at TRAC; can you explain to us what makes it so special a place to work?
There is such an ethos of encouragement and development. Regardless of your role, your voice and opinion will be heard and taken seriously – that kind of open communication goes a very long way to fostering the positive attitude which runs through the company.
Similarly, if you have a case for your own development, TRAC will be 100% behind it; for example, they funded my own further education course.
I’m not alone in wanting to make sure everyone enjoys working at TRAC. If they do – that’s the highlight for me.
